Trialling an Omeo

Omeo Colours

What to expect:

The Omeo electric wheelchair is an innovative personal mobility device that allows you to “grab life by the wheels”. With its balance-based technology and 0-degree turning circle, along with its compact, funky design, it truly is a revolutionary piece of engineering.

Are you interested in trialling an Omeo? If you live in the UK and would like to trial one of these innovative electric wheelchairs, read on.

Trials can be booked online or over the phone. First up, we’ll need to do a pre-trial assessment phone call, to make sure the Omeo is suitable for your needs. This is where we’ll learn more about you, including your disability and what you’d like to use the Omeo for. Once we’re happy the Omeo is suitable for your needs and abilities, we can then arrange a physical trial.

The physical trial can take place either at our office or at your location – whichever is most suitable. The testing area will be in an open space without pedestrians, where there’s plenty of room and it’s safe to manoeuvre as you get used to the feel of the Omeo. During the trialling process you’ll be accompanied by Tina, our resident Enhancement Enabler, who will be on hand to help.

First things first, the Omeo seat will be adjusted for your height and weight. Then, we’ll ask you to take a seat on the Omeo and gently rock backwards and forwards, to get a feel for the unique self-balancing technology.

Once you feel confident with how the Omeo works, we’ll guide you through the basic features of accelerating, reversing and turning. First, you can use the joystick controller to move the Omeo around. Then you can try using the Active Seat Control, to manoeuvre your way around using body movements. The Omeo is designed to be incredibly intuitive, but can naturally take some adjusting to if you’re used to a more traditional wheelchair design.

When you feel confident doing basic manoeuvres on the Omeo, we can then move onto more difficult terrain, such as grass, sand, stony paths and steeper slopes, depending on what’s available in the area. This will give you a chance to test out the Omeo’s unrivalled off-road capabilities.

Once you’re happy with how to move around on the Omeo and how it all works, we’ll then be available to answer any questions you may have, for example, questions relating to cost, battery life, airline suitability, and vehicle storage.

Trials tend to last for around one to two hours. This will give you plenty of time to get a feel for the unique technology of the Omeo and answer any questions you may have.

So, that’s what a trial day looks like. Interested in trying out the Omeo electric wheelchair for yourself? You can book a trial online or by calling 020 3289 4939.
