The Paralympics… it’s one of the biggest disability sport events in the world – and the Omeo is there!
That’s right.
Here at Adapt Ablity we’re proud that Paralympic basketball champion, TV presenter and disability advocate Ade Adepitan MBE is fulfilling his role as a ‘roving’ Channel 4 (C4) presenter in one of our Omeo wheelchairs.
Ade (and his Omeo) will be travelling around Paris each day in a cute classic electric Citroën van – soaking up the atmosphere, speaking to para-athletes and reporting live from the city’s sporting venues.
Ade is being joined by Clare Balding for C4’s live evening updates – running from 18.30 every day from 29 August until the Paralympics end.
Our director Matt – plus team members Ava, Kieran and Ian – will also be there, supporting Ade, his Omeo and his film crew behind-the-scenes.
Putting the Omeo though its paces in France
So why is Ade using an Omeo wheelchair to report for C4 from France?
Ade was introduced to our hands-free self-balancing tech by Matt.
He liked it so much he asked if Adapt Ability could lend him one to use at the Paralympics.
“It’s changed the game, given me freedom, it means I can do so much more and its fun! I’m in Paris, checking out a new city hands free and I’m loving it.”
Championing the power of disability sport
Ade is a passionate advocate of disability sport. He was a member of Team GB when it won bronze at the 2004 Summer Paralympics and gold at the 2005 Paralympic World Cup.
He moved from medal-winning wheelchair basketball player to commentator during the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where he was one of the main presenters for Channel 4.
He was awarded an MBE for services to disability sport in 2005.
